Speed Is the Whole Game: Lead Response Time and Case Acquisition
Response within five minutes changes conversion by an order of magnitude. The research, and the three operational fixes that get a firm there.
The speed at which a law firm responds to a lead has an outsized effect on whether that lead becomes a client. The research is consistent, and it is not close.
What the research says
- ·Contacting a lead within the first five minutes of an inquiry produces roughly 22 times the conversion rate of waiting longer.
- ·Firms that respond within an hour are seven times more likely to have a meaningful conversation with the decision-maker than those that wait even an hour more — and 21 times more likely than those that wait 24 hours.
- ·Cutting lead response time from six days to one day has been shown to move close rates from 3.2% to 7.5%.
- ·Only 27% of leads are ever contacted. The rest are simply lost.
Why it matters more in personal injury
A PI prospect is hurt, stressed, and calling several firms in a row. The first firm that answers with competence and empathy usually signs the case. That is not a marketing problem; it is an operations problem, and it is fixable in a week.
Three fixes that work
- 1.Route website inquiries to a phone. Configure text-message notifications for every form fill so a human sees it within a minute, not at the end of the day.
- 2.Give new clients their own line. A dedicated number routed directly to intake staff removes the front-desk bottleneck.
- 3.Track every call. Call-tracking software shows you what is being missed, when, and by whom — and you cannot fix what you cannot see.
Not sure how fast your firm actually responds? The Intake Gap Audit measures it — two scored mystery-shop calls, a web-form response test, and an ROI report on what the delay is costing you.
